Introgression of EaSY Program
The NT6900 (Cargill 2369) and NT7400 (ICI740) introgression projects provide a model for future development programs. In both cases, B73EaSY™ served as the genetic source. A minimum of 100 BC1 lines were created and used in a 2-replication test for per se yield. Based on those results, approximately 20 lines were selected for further development. All of the selected lines were homozygous for the two primary EaSY marker alleles. For this effort, a synthetic population (LH185Syn) was used as a tester although similar results have been obtained with other pollen parents.
Because of genetic segregation between the recurrent parent and B73, hybrid performance varied from roughly the same as the recurrent parent to being markedly better. For the sake of simplicity, the hybrid performance of the best line is being tracked as the data from each location is obtained (see links below).
EaSY is available in several genetic backgrounds; however, the pronounced effect of the trait on hybrid performance seems to overcome much of the yield drag associated with the genetic source. We encourage interested parties to contact us for additional information. We look forward to working with you.
